During a session

The therapist will perform some lymphatic drainage techniques over the clothes. This is done first in order to get lymph moving and loose for the ear candling session. Toxins trapped in lymph nodes can contribute to blocked sinuses and ear wax buildup. A hollow candle with a tapered end will be inserted into the ear canal. The other end of the candle is lit. The candle is made of paraffin, muslin or beeswax and some are treated with lavender or other scents. Due to it’s shape, design and length an ear candle draws out soft ear wax and fungus deposits from deep inside your ear canal. The smoke is therapeutic for drying up any dampness in the ear. As the candle is burned, extracted ear wax and fungus will be burned off, but some will be collected in the bottom of the candle. There is no pain involved in the process. You will only feel the candle being inserted into the ear and hear some crackling and popping from the flame. If there is any discomfort being experienced, ask the therapist to stop the session so that the reason for the discomfort can be evaluated. The session usually lasts 45 mins, however you should allow 1 hr for the appointment.

After a session

For a day or two after the session you may feel a warmth or some itching in your ears. To resolve this issue, put a drop of Hydrogen Peroxide in the ears and gently wipe out with a cotton swab. Echinacea liquid may be substituted for the Hydrogen Peroxide.

You may also notice that your sinuses are draining or that current draining increases. This is actually good and will relieve pressure in the sinuses. A decrease in sinus headaches will be noticed and your senses may also seem heightened. After a session, some people may feel light headed and noises may seem louder. This is not the norm for everyone but it is something that occasionally occurs. These kinds of symptoms will subside within hours or a day. If it becomes a nuisance, cotton may be placed in the ears to relieve discomfort.

How often should I get Ear Candling?

This question depends mostly on what you are hoping to get from ear candling. A few sessions may be needed initially if there is a lot of buildup in the ears. If your ears are otherwise healthy and you are seeking ear candling as a maintenance and prevention, every six months is beneficial.

Where does Ear Candling originate from?

Most people may think that ear candling is a new fad but the truth is that it originates as far back as 2500 B.C. Evidence suggests that many ancient cultures including Egyptians used ear candling. Many people today have rediscovered the benefits of ear candling in cleansing the ear canal and sinus passages.

What types of people can benefit from Ear Candling?

The simple answer is almost everyone. However, there are people that are especially benefited by the process. Those people are: Musicians (especially singers or those that use wind instruments) because they are prone to more wax buildup; those that wear a Hearing Aid and those with Previous Ear Injuries (due to increased wax and fungus buildup).

Who should not have Ear Candling?

Ear Candling should not be performed if you have the following:

Ear Tubes

Perforated Ear Drums

Artificial Ear Drums

Note: Ear Candling should not be performed by any one other than a certified practitioner.
